Celtic standout Alistair Johnston was left dazed and confused after seeing a 'headbutt' on him go unpunished during Canada's rousing victory over Peru at the Copa America.
The right-back was trading words with Marcos López before the Feyenoord star appeared to land one on his coupon of the Parkhead star. A VAR check took place but no punishment followed from officials. But Johnston and Canada had the last laugh as they emerged victorious to keep themselves on course for a place in the knockouts.
Jonathan David – linked with Chelsea and Manchester United – scored to down Peru who were eventually reduced to 10 men when Miguel Araujo was dismissed in the second half. Johnston earned praise for his display as he remains a key man for his club and country and proved it once more in Kansas City on Wednesday night.
