The fine dining restaurant on University Road will be closing its doors next month

A restaurant in Belfast has confirmed its last day of trading as its owner hit out at "extortionate" costs of operating in the city.

Gemma explained: "It's not a goodbye, it's a see you later. We regret to inform all our wonderful guests that our last trading day at A Peculiar Tea will be Saturday 7th July. "There has been a lot of tears, sleepless nights and doubt about whether this is the right decision. We have one of the best restaurants in the city and are fully booked months in advance but it means nothing in this current climate. We calculated that we would need to serve a Tasting Menu at £170 per person to make a profit... we would never do this.

Gemma has hit out at people who have sent the team abuse since the closure announcement was made, and has highlighted that any vouchers will be honoured in their new restaurant, as a takeaway afternoon tea, and at future pop-ups.
