Glasgow has been named the illegal vape capital of Scotland as over 16,000 have been seized in the last four years.
The news comes as industry experts have called for a crackdown with trading standards branded ‘toothless’ and lacking powers to issue fines or fixed penalty notices for the possession and supply of illegal vapes. According to Vape Club's 2024 Illegal Vaping Report, just 7% have faced fines despite year on year increases in the number of sellers being caught.
Experts want to see councils handed greater enforcement powers and tighter restrictions, as fines or fixed penalty notices are only administered through lengthy court processes. They are calling for a crackdown on the potentially dangerous 'black market' vapes which often end up in the hands of youngsters.
