I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic. I’m also a regular on IGN’s Fireteam Chat podcast and have published five sci-fi novels.

Epic feels like it’s scrambling after admitting it was spending more money than it was taking in, laying off 900 employees to try to balance those books. Books skewed bytweet is being ratioed into oblivion, and it’s not just that trading is being removed from the game, it’s the explanation as to“We’re making this change to align with Epic’s overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren’t tradable, transferrable, or sellable.

There are two factors at play here, one is unsaid, that Epic was not able to take a cut of player-to-player trades, so they want to restrict things to purchases that they will get a slice of. Eliminating trading means there is nothing they’re getting cut out of now. That of course is serving to try to fill Epic’s giant revenue hole, for all the good it will do.WWE NXT Results: Winners And Grades On Tuesday Night War Vs.

Here, it seems like Epic wants to do just that between Rocket League and Fortnite, and this is in service of, you guessed it, Tim Sweeney’s eternal vision of the metaverse. In the sci-fi versions of the metaverse many stories do have players taking equipment across games and scenarios, but in the real world, this is…Epic wanting to put Rocket League cars in Fortnite so they’re killing an extremely popular Rocket League feature to do so. Fantastic work.

This is just the latest in a series of Epic blunders, meant to serve Sweeney’s ends and correct his mistakes. This will severely damage Rocket League and barely benefit Fortnite for reasons that really cannot be articulated in a meaningful way. A terrible decision all around, though one I would not expect to be reverted so long as Rocket League remains under Epic’s thumb.
