Over the past year, officers in both jurisdictions have been called out to several robberies, and are concerned that a crime trend may be emerging.“It appears someone is targeting these victims for cryptocurrency, and we believe this public warning is necessary in the interest of public safety,” said Staff Sgt. Gene Hsieh, a spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP Major Crime Unit, in a statement Wednesday.
Neither agency is providing any details about the robberies or releasing the amount stolen, except to say that it was “a large amount.”Police have yet to confirm whether these robberies are linked however; in each case the suspects gained access to a victim’s home by posing as delivery people or persons of authority.
