AN official of the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal on Tuesday reported an oversupply of ginger and eggplant in the trading post, resulting in depressed wholesale prices but not in retail. In a radio interview, NVAT General Manager Gilbert Cumila noted that the price of ginger at the NVAT ranged between P32 and P35 per kilo for high grade and P12 per kilo for small sizes.
'Before, the wholesalers bought at least one ton of garlic, it went down to 300 kilos,' Cumila noted.Cumila said that wholesalers complained that imported ginger floods the local markets in Metro Manila.'The buyers said there are many stocks of ginger in Metro Manila and these are imported ginger,' he said.He added that aside from ginger, there is also an oversupply of eggplant at the trading post.
