BBC News NI Political Correspondent
Politicians are to return to Stormont in a bid to elect a new Speaker for the fifth time since May's election. The motion calls on the Democratic Unionist Party to end its boycott of power-sharing to help deal with the cost-of-living crisis.came into effect. Chris Heaton-Harris confirmed he would implement a 27% cut but it is still not clear when this will happen.
The new law also means the Northern Ireland secretary is now under a new legal obligation to call a fresh Stormont election, which would take place no later than 13 April if the institutions are not restored by mid-January. The legislation also clarifies the limited decision-making powers provided to civil servants while there is no Northern Ireland Executive in operation.
Why?
Actually starting to hate the sight and sound of Anti BBC! Think I’ll cancel my licence
Even with the pay cut, these so called politicians are still getting paid much more than the average wage of hard working people in Northern Ireland!! Disgraceful stormont
Bottom line is dup are not going to play second fiddle to sinn Fein end of story
The parties involved- SF, SDLP and Alliance -know full well that the DUP won't go back into the executive until the protocol is fixed so this return to Stormont is a mere stunt. These parties should try and help sort out the protocol problem.

This is news? I can already write you your report for this evening's 6:30 bulletin.... That won't be newsworthy either!
Of course they are with the threat of wages being cut, predictable as ever
Publicity stunt👍
Isn't it interesting that the others in Stormont apart from the DUP & TUV are happy to dance to the SF/PIRA army council drugs crime gangs tune. I hope the republican Alliance, SDLP, PBP, Greens & UUP can find their voice & condemn the SF/PIRA murderous drugs & crime gang links.
And the duponline will turn its back on the ppl of the North again. For something they caused themselves with their 'Never' politics. Ppl across the North will suffer this winter as a result of their childish stance on an issue between their beloved UKG and the EU. Pathetic
