Preliminary analysis from CertiK shows that the attacker exploited a vulnerability on the solana side of the Wormhole bridge to create 120,000 so-called "wrapped" ethereum tokens for themselves. It appears that they then used these tokens to claim ethereum that was held on the ethereum side of the bridge.

If you have significant holdings in crypto currency DO NOT store your coins in wallets on the major exchanges. Transfer your coins to hardware wallets and keep them offline even. Those exchanges offer wallets as a convenience but those platforms are high value targets for hackers
Arent you suppose to be able to trace crypto? If you cant trace it then it helps criminals more than law abiding citizens
